Ocean interlude

Nicole Pritchard

On the ferry, waves beneath my gaze

Distant splashes, a wavy haze

A pod of whales, a dance so free

Playing in the waves, wild and glee

They jump and pop, their heads so bright

Fully present, in pure delight

No agenda, just a friendly hello

A smile crept on my face, don't you know

Their gentle nature, a moment's treat

A memory to hold, a heart to beat

Just a hello, a whimsical sight

Whales in the distance, pure joy in sight

Time stood still as they drew near

A fleeting magic, only the ocean can bring here

The ferry glides, but I stay behind

In tranquil awe, with the whales, I swim

A beautiful poem of merging with nature. Nicely worded and with great flow it has good rhyme and carries the reader along for the ride. Very nicely done. Whales are marvelous creatures and I have watched them surface and breach from the beach. When I ride the ferry I usually get to watch the dolphins and it is a treat.
