(Verse 1)
The sombre sun sets
For the last time
My expiring mind etches out
Its final rhymes
My irises capture
Their fading photons
Electricity flickers
Through dying neurons
(Verse 2)
My diaphragm pulls
The last oxygen to my chest
Gifting CO2 to the trees
With my terminal breath
Once my corpse is lowered
Into the damp abyss
My remaining cells commence
Their metamorphosis
(Chorus)
Oh death, oh death
An unappreciated friend
Spiralling through the cosmos
Barreling by black holes
There is no end
Oh death, oh death
You’ve kissed me with your
Wilted lips
Consciousness is reborn
Pulsing like a neutron star
The cosmos is your hips
(Verse 3)
No more motion
All is serenely still
The worms and insects
Gorge their fill
Phosphorus, calcium and collagen
Are what will remain
The only evidence I existed
On this conscious plain
(Verse 4)
Taut dry flesh, like leather
Now exposed to soil and damp
Nature initiates recycling
With its signature stamp
The only remnant of me
Will be decaying gelatin
Rest easy in the ground
My humble skeleton
(Chorus)
Oh death, oh death
An unappreciated friend
Spiralling through the cosmos
Barreling by black holes
There is no end
Oh death, oh death
You’ve kissed me with your
Wilted lips
Consciousness is reborn
Pulsing like a neutron star
The cosmos is your hips

I have always seen death as an old friend a reliever of pain and a siren that sings softly. Reincarnation implied as the body decomposes. The soul liberated to be reborn. Nicely done.
