The face I put on is not my own
Nor are the photos I post on my phone
Edit this, edit that
Do it to change my looks and trim up some fat
Hide behind pretty clothes and shoes
Vibrant shades of greens and blues
Turn my face away, call it a pose
Plaster a smile to preform these shows
Oh, the face I put on is not my own
The one I have isn’t one to be shown

Sad it speaks of lack of confidence and shame. It is a poem of existential loss. Well written
Ah well Soren I think today is just a day, I tend to be pretty self confident. I trust it’ll be better tomorrow. Thank you for commenting.
You are most welcome. I'm sure it will be and not every poem is about the author at least mine are not so I understand
I feel like this poem is universal in its subject, and relatable to everyone in one way or another... a sad reality we live in. Great write
Unfortunately many of us have days where our self esteem is low, but we can rise up from it. Thank you for the comment.
As empathic as you are your beauty radiates through any mask! Great poem!
Aw thank you Demar! Luckily beauty comes in different shapes lol, thank you for commenting as always!
Allie, that return to the face not being your own…that’s what anchors the whole piece. Everything builds around it and keeps the weight right there. Beautifully done, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you so much for your kind words Tristan!
