I woke today-
for me, nothing had changed.
BREAKING NEWS,
the anchors raged.
My day, your day,
his day, her day-
work and sleep,
we carry on, we stay.
Meanwhile, a world
unravels past our sight-
not just wallets thinning,
but lives erased overnight.
Mothers. Sisters.
Brothers. Fathers.
Reduced to numbers
beneath the headlines’ waters.
We sit in office chairs,
concerned with pay,
while somewhere else
whole lives are swept away.
At some point
we lost the frame-
following orders
from those who lost the aim.
How can we worry
about trips and escape,
when others fear
their whole world’s shape?
Geography grants us
the privilege of power-
war goes to them,
it never comes to our towers.
I’m tired-
of looking away from the truth:
they are no different,
they are us, in another proof.
No war, any war.
I beg of you, please.
