Cast in a pit, blasphemous words spit, an outcast
Scapegoat in a game of judgmental shame, crippled mind a body did outlast
Leather bands secure the hands of a man pronounced possessed
While in life's fever dream he did scream of visions that others distressed
A body convulsed, viewers repulsed, twisted words not understood
With a sharp stone chipped a hole in his skull's bone, releasing spirts for his good
Hear him shout as they come flying out, with blood evil spirits released
Making sure he received religion's cure, if not, better he be deceased
Today instead of a rock we let people talk until they break the rule
Then deeming them ill give them a pill a pharmaceutical magic jewel
Those that defy we electrify or sever their brain with a shiny steel tool
Now the walking dead, chained to a bed where they sit and drool
Some say it's better this way, science's treatment more humane
Have we come far to get where we are in treating the insane

For me definitely science. But we all have our own personal choice. Great write and discussion I actually know people who believe they can heal even cancer by praying. I don't judge them and I always hope that it works, even though I know it could not. 🌹
Thanks so much Teddy I appreciate your read and although we tend to separate the two to me they are not that much different, I have seen scientists as fervent in their beliefs as priests.
I live in Italy, those two things are completely separate 🌹 but again a great discussion 🌹
Ha ha
Thought provoking piece and much enjoyed
Thanks so much Norman for the read and kind words of support they are most appreciated
you are most welcome
Science without religion is lame .
Religion without science is blind .
They are not rivals .
Brilliant write .
In the same way that the mental and the physical are two ways of seeing the same thing so is religion and science
I agree with you .
We have come a very long way over time .. and a lot has changed .. still mystery and fear abounds .. but I know if I was severely depressed I would hope someone would have the sense to give me course of ECT .. oh' and we now tend to go through the lachrymal duct to get to the brain whenever possible .. its a lot less messy .. 😎👍
Thanks so much Neville I appreciate your read and comment. I know we think we have come a long way but I will be satisfied when either we can accept them for who they are or prevent it from occurring.
Good write SB. KP's chained me to this ball and chain and thrown away the key! lol.
Thanks so much Orchi for the read and comment it is most appreciated my friend
Religion and science merge when the mind underlies material reality .
Nicely said. thanks so much for the review Lorenz and the comment. It is most valued
Aptly put, Lorenz. Aptly put.
Everything has its place and contribution and even a congruence when we are disposed. 🙏🏻🕊️
Indeed thanks so much for the read and comment it is always most valued
Soren, this hits hard…no easing into it, just straight into the weight of it. It doesn’t hold back, and that’s what makes it land. For me it’s not an either/or…it’s a both/and. The modern world forgets what scientia even means and narrows it too much. Anywho, off my soapbox. Strong piece, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you so much Tristan I appreciate your read and comment. To me science and religion are two institutions built on belief organized by structure of text and governing bodies and what is accepted determined by those in power. Like physical and mental the same thing by different points of view true to the one that holds them not to the other.
Have you ever seen the movie Flight of Dragons? This poem reminds me of it
Thank you for the read and comment Demar no I have not
Very well written I like the equivalences that you write of today's times You're definitely a man who's been around this world in multiple times and thank you for being one of my best friends
The great mothergaia what about you for such wonderful things that you have done I'm sure she would say thank you well done
You are most kind and I thank you for that. I have seen what others see but see it differently some times and at others the same but recognize that we all have our version of the truth
I remember reading that Charles Darwin believed in God.
A very interesting Poem you penned. Some of the treatment for the Mentally ill over the Centuries has been barbaric.
Thank you so much Kevin for the read and comment it is deeply appreciated. Over the past forty some years I have been involved with inpatient hospitals, prisons, and outpatient care for the (mentally ill ) I prefer to call them people that don't fit society and the treatment is still barbaric. I have seen the aftermath of ECT, had patients that were lobotomized, and the saddest of all those dopped to the point that they don't know who they are or what they want and many of these are people in normal families treated outpatient by doctors giving them antidepressants and antianxiety medication.
