By repeating the refrain "finish the job" you emphasized the importance of perseverance and gave rhythm to the entire song. If it's about any positive job, I agree with you, but if it's about war, then it's a job that's very strange to me, one that involves killing human beings, and in that case I would say: Don't finish that terrible job for God's sake!
