Choice Suspended

There is no winning

just an upper hand

The scoreboard fluid

as change commands

The odds on fire

to win or lose

With choice suspended

— the moment skewed

**

Flows A River

Why in the world

would you care

And if you did

would it matter

Our differences

vast

And incongruence

shatters

Diametrically

opposed

With a canyon

between us

Where truth

flows a river

Never filled

— by consensus

**

No Quarter

The arrogance of

importance

Plato

staking his claim

As thought

gives no quarter

Where truth

— is proclaimed

**

Death Sentence

Meandering

through life

Our consciousness

bought

A capital

sin

Forgiveness

— is naught

**

Lip Service

I approve the better

but follow the worse

Entitlements hostage

— alone in the hearse

**

The Magic Within

Music has no borders

and no axe to grind

Love has no labels

but seekers must find ...

The magic within

both the sound and the heart

To change what an army

— must yield in their rout

**

Fair Winds

The #1 indicator of good health

— nothing happens

**

Bestowed

When diffidence

takes precedence

over enlightenment and fact

All confidence

in abeyance

every gift is abstract

To believe is

confirmation

of what the spirit will know

Giving credence to a memory

more than gifted

— bestowed

**

The Moment Upon Us

Resetting

your watch

the end coming soon

Ignoring

the ticking

whose bomb will bring doom

The sands

running thinner

the hourglass clear

The moment

upon us

— when doubt turns to fear

**

Nerve Endings

The one thing

I know better

than anything else

Is myself

plain and simple

— viscerally felt

**

Ballast

The more you learn

the less you need

Your burden lifting

— as lessons free

**

Let’s Begin

Can you think it

— I can think it

Can you feel it

— I can feel it

Can you claim it

— I can claim it

Can you live it

— let’s begin

**

Jumping The Rim

I lived most of my life

in a fishbowl

floating and swimming

in place

Watching in awe

at the consequent sprawl

while confined to my

own little space

One morning I took

it upon me

to swim fast from the depths

far below

And once jumping the rim

I was freed of my fins

there to run

— where a fish never goes

**

Once Out Of The Barn

Hello

opens a door

Goodbye

— cannot close

**

Remade

I lived my life

broken

never wanting

to mend

Killing every

emotion

that was poisoned

on end

Denuding their

power

I went on

my way

And forty years

later

content

— and remade

**

Betrayal Is Fatal

A human

German Shephard

you get only

one chance

Mistreatment

is terminal

and you’re barred

from the dance

My loyalty

total

beyond question

or fear

But betrayal

is fatal

and banishment

— clear

**

Both Bleeding Red

A disease

or an ailment

who gets to decide

What matters

the name

when two planets collide

Tomato

tomatto

they’re both bleeding red

Beyond what

you call them

— beyond what is said

**

Point Of No Return

With hate

there’s still hope

When emotions flatline

— it’s over

**

But In Name

More than strangers

less than friends

Forced estrangement

time portends

Brothers — Sisters

but in name

Exiled feelings

— parental shame

**

Several good ones Kurt and as for me today the one that hits hardest is a river flows the second on your list. Very nicely written

  • Friendship

This writing is truly exceptional, with ideas flowing unabated as the pen hits the paper, the brain working tirelessly to produce an outstanding expression of thoughts and perspectives that blend storytelling and questioning.

Both honored and gratified. Thank you.
