Mankind

sorenbarrett

War is a bloody business where the pregnant are gutted and babies heads are bashed
Politics is a dirty job where promises are broken and all values are trashed
Betrayal and lies, tools of the trade where throats are cut and deals made
Where the devil is paid and love is put to the butcher's blade
Coming from a generic can, religion of man is murder of his brother
And from a phallic steeple people pay to see a theater rape of their mother
All religious men have a yen for violent entertainment
Interests of any nation justify any application for their attainment
Sow your neighbor's fields with seeds of salt
Tear out his teeth and eye make it God's fault
The old fulfilled, so much blood spilled of self and another
On a lost page it is written, love one's brother

There is so much hatred in the world everywhere I look it's a sad thing to witness but I guess we have always had such, it's just so much easier to see now. A fabulous powerful write filled with truth and disgrace of the way things are. 🌹

Thank you my kind friend for the review and perceptive understanding of the poem's intent it is most appreciated

My god is more powerful than your god, so I'm allowed to kill you outright in the name of my god.
The arms trade is worth billions. Countries you wouldn't dream of are involved. Countries like Switzerland, always neutral, but not in the arms trade.
I would imagine if the strait doesn't open soon, Iran won't be on the map anymore, and the world will be choosing sides to fight with.

      • sorenbarrett

Thank you Paul for the read and interpretation it is most valued. As to what is happening I question every report from distorted media. Every country has its own version on their news. As for wining the US has not won a war in my life time. Fought to a draw in Korea, lost in Viet Nam, withdrew in disgrace from Iraq and Afghanistan. We twist our fairy book tales to please a populace that thinks we are the mightiest. We can nuke the entire country of Iran and they will still win. When it takes a two million dollar missel to take down a three thousand dollar drone it won't take long for the US to follow what happened to Russia. Wars are not just fought on battlefields now days. Cruelty exists in all forms from war to financial quarters

            • Friendship

Well written. Your poem revolves around the grim realities of war, political corruption, and religious hypocrisy. It depicts the brutal consequences of these societal elements and critiques the failure of humanity to embrace compassion and love.

It's so true. I often wonder how children that can be born with so much love turn into adults with so much hate. In such an environment it's not surprising, but the cycle continues no matter who runs it, and there you have the empty promises of a better future.
Here is the truth, which poets cry until death, but literature is unappreciated.

                      • Poetic Licence

I wish poems like this never needed to be written by people like us, but sadly they have to be because of devastation some people still want to inflict on others in order to justify their own beliefs. Who ever thought the world would have to worry and be more scared of the American presidents thoughts and action, rather than China and Russia, but here we are watching him slowly dismantle the world at whatever cost it takes. Not to mention lining his own and his billionaire pals pockets even more while going to war. Much needed and well written write.

Very nicely written. I agree war is evil. Always escalates. And is not good for anybody. The things we fight for is at the point of international embarrassment. Your prose summed it up for me petfectly.

Someone said, "You're going to leave this world just as evil as you found it." Those Bodhisattvas have an almighty task on their hands! Having said that, the "next round" is said to take place within a higher octave, giving all of us miserable souls even more of a helping hand (and a kick up the backside?!).

I find it hard to disagree with any of that, Soren... But...

                                      • sorenbarrett

Thanks Dave kind as always...But....(just joking my friend)

                                        • Doggerel Dave

I'm not, Soren. We (all those above) have got together and deplored the situation. At least make an attempt to understand the whys and the how's.

                                          • sorenbarrett

Dave I have my theories on the whys (Greed, insensitivity to others, prejudice racial, religious, nationalism, past history of blood feuds, faulty information purposeful or not, land disputes, etcetera) Just too many people. It seems to be in the DNA of mankind.

                                            • Doggerel Dave

Your nihilistic scepticism in full view.

                                            • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, I apologize for the delay…just came off finishing a major composition called The Shaman, another tone poem, and it wiped me out a bit. That aside, this hits hard, my friend…no buffer, no softening…just straight into the brutality of it all. My kind of poem…a fave for sure. It feels like a raw indictment of what we justify when power takes over. It lingers heavy. Powerful write. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
