The miracle is you

David A Liebermann

You stay by their side
In a fight that is rarely seen,
Often taken for granted,
Existing in the spaces between.

No one sees the enormous effort
You exert just to carry on,
The tumultuous energy
You draw upon before the dawn.

The screaming within you,
The hiding of your despair,
The sadness that covers you,
A weight you always have to bear.

You entered into this battle
Without a moment’s warning;
You put on your armor of bravery
To hide the tears of your mourning.

You hope for a better tomorrow
That is in no rush to appear;
You pray for a miracle,
Though one has already happened here.

The one you love is still present,
Battling beside you every day,
Looking to you for the strength
To find a brand-new way.

Every day that you endure
Brings a victory for life;
Every small step you take
Is a triumph over the strife.

You wake up finally
To the hard reality:
That the life you once knew
Is now a memory.

But you find within your heart
The resource to continue;
You steel your mind
For the challenge within you.

You set the balance
Between yourself and your duty,
Bringing joy whenever you can,
To find a new kind of beauty.

Hand in hand through the wreckage,
Building something brand new;
The miracle isn't the ending
The miracle is you.

    Each person their own miracle. Nicely written with good imagery this poem speaks to the individuality of a person
