Beware the branch above your head,
The drop bear waits with silent paws.
It leaps from gum trees, full of dread,
Beware the branch above your head.
Legends say it feeds on fear instead,
Its growl unseen, its teeth the cause.
Beware the branch above your head,
The drop bear waits with silent paws.

nicely done.
Matthew, this balances tension and playfulness perfectly…that unseen threat hanging just above, paired with a rhythm that keeps pulling you back into it. It feels like a legend you half believe and half laugh at. I’ve had that same mix of unease and amusement reading it. And honestly…Damn, I wouldn’t want to be a Kookaburra in an ol’ gum tree with that thing up there! LOL! Well written, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
