God, Save Me From Hellfire

Shaunmatthewcpoetry

I'm out for an hour long walk, everywhere stinks of weed,

Ask yourself, is getting high what you really, really need?

Not bending over to get ahead, is it succeed or suck seed?

Why compromise morals and sell your soul for capital greed?

Hate the feel of concrete beneath my size 9 black trainers,

Switched from Nike and Adidas to Under Armour for ages,

Try speaking on the truth for once, it really is contagious,

YouTube and TikTok channels but no desire to be famous.

Far too honest to become a barefaced and narcissistic liar,

Those evil ones can really latch on, God, save me from hellfire,

I used to watch police dramas like The Shield and The Wire,

Escapism in television is okay but I'm not a Hollywood squire.

Every night I stand at the sink and do the evening dishes,

Need to cut down on my meat intake and eat more fishes,

Thankfully no more sleep paralysis with any bad witches,

Know for a fact that fighting my demons isn't fictitious.

Good write SM. And saved from horror shows - Eastenders, Neighbours, etc. Who can bear them?! lol. That hideous jangle of that naff Neighbours song - another episode about to start. lol.

The rapping thoughts rambling through the poetic mind of one thinking of a common day. Well done

Save me too, dear Lord…but if you show up looking like that dude in the picture, I might jump back in! 🤣 All kidding aside, Shaun, this hit me hard…there’s a raw, unfiltered honesty running straight through this. It feels like you’re just laying it all out…no polish, no pretending…just truth as you’re walking it. That kind of directness carries weight. I will say this…not everyone is smoking to get high. Where I live, it’s prescribed medically, and I’m one of those patients…it helps me manage PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Of course, that’s not everyone’s reason 😏💨…but there’s some nuance there. All the same, strong piece, my friend. I really enjoy reading your work. Always thought-provoking. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
