I’m tired, Mama

Friendship

I’m tired, Mama

The suitcase of my spirit is heavy and worn,
I’ve carried the edges of anger and thorn,
But the storm has subsided, the winds have gone still,
I’ve walked down the valley and over the hill.

I’ve made my peace with the earth and the sky,
With the questions that haunted and left me to cry.
I’ve made my peace with the Maker above,
Trading the battle for a blanket of love.

No more the secrets I hoarded like stones,
No more the ache in the marrow of bones,
No more the rejection, the sting of the door,
I don’t want to fight with the world anymore.

I’m tired, Mama—the road has been long,
I’ve sung all the verses of every wrong song.
I’m done finding faults in the soul that I bear,
I’m done with the heavy, the cold, and the glare.

Forgive me the silence, forgive me the roam,
The wandering heart is finally home.
I’m ready, Mama, to lay down my head,
To leave all the ghosts and the shadows instead.

I’m weary of running, I’m ready to rest,
To be held in the quiet, to be truly blessed.
Open the door, let the porch light shine bright,
I’m coming home, Mama, into the light.

Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to visit. I've been exploring rhymes for a while now. My dad often used rhymes in his poetry when I was young, and he taught me well. I appreciate it.

This envokes to me a person who is ready for change. Not just any change but a major life change that will bring the person home. The home is the heart. The home is love. The home is safe. I think we all want to be home. In the quiet. In the solitude. Surrounded by loved ones and blessed that our soul keeps shinning light for others to see.

This truly is incredible and sits at the heart of my relationship with my mother. Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm not sure how you found these words but it honestly made me cry the most beautiful way and heal something that's been waiting a long time...

I'm deeply grateful for your heartfelt comment, which truly touched my heart. My mom, a beacon of kindness, left an indelible mark on the world before she passed away during the COVID lockdown. Though I couldn't be by her side on Long Island to bid my final farewell, her memory stays with me, inspiring me to cherish every moment. She fought against a cruel disease with unwavering strength and left behind a legacy of love, compassion, and beauty. While her physical presence is missed dearly, her spirit remains a guiding light in my life. I yearn to reunite with her, but I'm reminded that love transcends time and space. Once again, thank you for your beautiful words.

Wow this was powerful to read and thank you so much for sharing! So many of us suffered through that time and can never really find enough words to bring comfort to myself or any that went through what we did. Such is life and the dark times we all ride, yet still seek out the light. Thank you again. Always appreciated. Much peace and respect šŸ™

A very thoughtful piece of writing, which cannot be grasped with ordinary thought. I liked the prose poem arranged with similes, metaphors and imagery. good luck
