The ghost that saves.

David Wakeling

Love will sit on the doorstep like a white panther, resting.
Staring at you, making you smile that special smile,
You will become a beautiful bird, wanting and singing.

The terror that comes from wishing will help to beguile.
Hurrying to the open door when your partner arrives,
You will open their arms like a charming birthday present.
Enchanting lights in the dark night sky will transform your lives,
And the distant sound of soft music beckons contentment.

Soon the white panther will depart without making a sound,
You will return to the green cliffs above a sea of blue,
And fall back from the edge and embrace the genuine ground,

With only the exquisite ghost of your love to save you.

This reminds me of a story, of a little girl who didn't want to go to church with her mum and dad, as she said she didn't want to meet the (Holy) Ghost! More often called the Holy Spirit now.

A ghost of love sounds haunting and so it should be. Well written

Your poem focuses on the experience of love, from the joy it brings to the pain of its absence. Nicely written

Albino panther, that's a spanner in the works! Locked in the beguiling bit right there. A ghost of love truly catches like a safety net under a highwire act. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ
