Crossing The Line
Time
is a circle
Unbroken
ordained
Inside
or out
Your destiny
— claimed
***
When The Music’s Over
Faithful
to his demons
Jim walked the Rues
Paris
alluring
deception its truth
Consumed
by a fantasy
where darkness can hide
Alone
in the travesty
the drugs — and the lies
***
One Chance
Time waits
for no one
holding their breath
Hearts beat
in sequence
numbered till death
One chance
is given
no seconds or thirds
Fate
the addiction
— shaken not stirred

Kurt, this feels like three fragments carved from the same existential stone…tight, rhythmic, and haunted by inevitability. The whole sequence moves with a kind of fatalistic momentum that really pulled me in. Powerful work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Many thanks, again.
The writing is indeed captivating and serves as a poignant tribute to Jim Morrison. Although I was in sixth grade when he passed away, it wasn't until my early teens that I developed an interest in his music. His untimely death at 27 remains a tragic loss, and the circumstances surrounding his passing continue to be shrouded in mystery.
Your poem delves into personal and existential struggles, particularly through the lens of addiction and its consequences. Jim Morrison, a reference to the lead singer of The Doors, serves as a symbol for the darker aspects of fame, fantasy, and the ultimate solitude that can accompany a life marked by substance abuse.
I met Jim while surfing the Pier in Huntington Beach in 1968. He was captivated by surfing but we couldn't get him in the water. I was riding a Conn CC Rider that he liked to sit on and pretend. In real life, he was much different than you would expect. We talked surfing, poetry, and motorcycles. Three of us (myself and 2 friends) were living out of a 24' U-Haul Truck that had a half dozen mattresses inside, 3 motorcycles, and 8 surfboards. I like to think maybe he thought about us when years later, he wrote 'Riders On The Storm.' I still have his first 2 books of poetry ... 'The Lords' & 'The New Creatures.'
Enjoyable read. Well done!
Thanks Katie.
