UNLIVING, I WALK

Isabel Szurlej

[Intro – spoken / whispered]
Unliving, I walk through living mortals,
this dim-browed earth, a graveyard underfoot.
I hunt for the first lost spark in ruined thought,
the broken circuit of a man undone.

[Verse 1]
Through all my veins that raving makes its rounds,
a feral tide that will not ebb or sleep.
I am the heir of long-fractured voices,
their broken choirs still burning in the deep.

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Time unloosed its weight, slipped from my neck,
I drifted over fields I dared not tread,
a waking dream that never truly dies.

[Chorus – heavier]
Raving in my veins, a sleepless storm,
nameless blade driven in my marrow.
Raving through my being, round and round,
never still and never letting go—

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Let the wan god count the splinters of my soul,
sift this wreck and weigh the embers’ glow.

[Bridge – slow, crushing]
From the wreck, let him number what’s left of me;
if any ember endures the fall,
let that be the last thing standing free.

[Final Chorus – screamed / layered]
Raving in my veins, a sleepless storm,
nameless blade driven in my marrow.
I am ruin. I am the glow.

Raving through my being, round and round,
never still and never letting go—

Whether poem of song this write is beautiful and powerful, compelling it pulls the reader along. Nicely done

Thank you—really appreciate it. The text didn’t stay a poem for long: it’s already a song, and it’s running on its own now.
