A Letter To Heaven

Anthony Hanible

God

I write this letter with hands that still Shake

From everything I’ve lived through

And everything I’m still learning to carry

I lift these words to You

The way a child lifts their face

Trusting You’ll see them

Even when they’re small

I tell You first

Thank You for holding the ones I miss

For giving them rest

Where no pain follows

Where no night is too long

Where every tear is remembered

But none remain

To my loved ones in Your keeping

I hope you hear me

I hope you feel the way my heart

Still reaches for you

In the quiet moments

When the world slows down

And your names rise like warm light

Behind my ribs

I write that I’m trying

Some days I walk strong

Other days I break open

Like a prayer that can’t stay silent

But God

You steady me

You remind me that love

Doesn’t end at the grave

It just changes rooms

Tell them I haven’t forgotten

Tell them their laughter still lives in me

Their lessons still guide me

Their love still shapes the way

I move through this world

Tell them I’m carrying them forward

With every breath

And if You can

Send a little peace down

For the days when grief feels heavy

And a little joy

For the days when I remember them

With more warmth than ache

At the bottom of this letter

I sign my name

With hope

With longing

With love that refuses to fade

Trusting that Heaven reads every word

And answers in ways

My heart can feel
