The Song Ends

Neil Higgins

She stands at the edge of forever.

Sea foam kissing her bare feet,

a melody pouring from her throat,

Promises whispered in salt air.

Lost sailors, hearts yearning for shore,

Hear not the rocks, the hidden jagged teeth.

Only the lullaby, the sweet invitation.

To drown in her eyes, her embrace.

A fragile hope, a dangerous wish,

to be claimed, consumed,

both terrible and divine.
