Naomi had difficult pregnancies,
She had two before this one.
Catherine was her first and came 2 months early,
and needed to go into intensive care.
Her second was a boy who was stillborn.
She called him Russell.
Her current pregnancy resulted in,
A little boy she named Cody after her Dad.
Late one night she had a chance to talk to him.
The Nurse placed little Cody on Naomi’s chest.
Once the two were alone Naomi began to speak.
“Well look at you.10 fingers and 10 toes,
That’s a good start’
At least you won’t need special footwear.
We are saving money already sweetheart.
Oh Cody I know you want to sleep
But I have a few things to say.
Your Father is not around. When he heard about you,
He disappeared never to be seen again.
But don’t worry I used to doing everything myself.
We will be a great team I just know it.
There are many lessons to learn in this life,
The first important lesson is Love.
Trust me I will teach you how to love people and life itself.
If you treat each person with Kindness you will find Love will appear.
Oh Life will throw things at you don’t want.
Many difficulties. But nothing we can’t work out together.
Beyond dealing with people in a kind way,
I want you to use your imagination.
I don’t want you to ever be afraid of your creative mind.
If you see unicorns everywhere so be it.
If you see fairies and angels in the woods I will let you see them.
Nothing should get in the way of your imagination.
If you wish to be a artist or a poet or a visionary,
I will be your greatest fan.
As long as you can walk and day dream at the same time.
That will be a great start.
So sleep little one sleep you have a long and glorious life ahead.

Most welcome amigo🕊️🙏🏻
David, this is really moving. There’s such tenderness and humanity in Naomi’s voice throughout this piece…especially knowing the grief and loss she already carries into this moment. The hope she pours into Cody feels deeply emotional without ever becoming sentimental. Beautiful work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️
