Sleep Fighter

Anthony Hanible

Night comes like a stranger

I don’t trust anymore

I lie still

But my body remembers battles

I never meant to start

Dreams pull the strings

And I move like a storm

Breaking loose in the dark

Hands searching for ghosts

Only I can see

So I sleep far from others

A quiet exile

In my own bed

Afraid my shadows

Might spill into someone else’s peace

But some part of me hopes

That one day

My nights will soften

That the war inside my sleep

Will finally unclench

And I’ll rest

Without fear

Of the person I become

When the world goes quiet

A nocturnal transformation feared as one drifts off to sleep. Nicely written Anthony
