Compassion

Fränz Müller

Bringing your authentic self

to any situation

runs the very likely risk

of soul exasperation!

Keeping up appearances

has its benefits

and saves the ego from the likely

disappointment fits.

So build that wall, and build it high

and keep your heart secure

and in the lonely silence note

your spirit, cold and pure.

Well said. Your poem explores the tension between authenticity and the desire to maintain appearances: that being true to oneself can lead to emotional exhaustion, while putting up emotional barriers might protect the ego at the cost of genuine connection and warmth.

Well written a poem of conflict between the is and the desired. Well done

Fränz, this hit me hard because of how quietly true it feels. The poem starts almost conversationally, then slowly reveals the emotional cost of self-protection underneath it all. That final image of the spirit becoming “cold and pure” lands with real sadness. Powerful write, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
