Notice of absence from Tristan Robert Lange
Life is full of seasons. This is a season of transition for me, where I will be moving with my family to a new location. As such, with much logistics to consider, I am doing my best to keep up. Please know if I accidentally don't respond, it is not because I am ghosting or becoming distant. Once things settle after the move, I am sure life will return to some normalcy. In the meantime, and always:

they smile
because they’re in—
she talks to them,
acknowledges them,
laughs with them,
before us all—
because they’re in
proximity
to power,
watching the leader,
following the preacher
of the hour.
this is all very sour—
proximity to power
turns a dancer to a
wallflower.
but I won’t scour
over proximity
nor will I move
proxime
to become approximately
Jacob climbing a ladder
to be on a pedestal
only God should be.

If I remember right he had his head on some rocks before that dream. Anticipation works for children why not for adults when they expect to catch the droppings of the powerful. Indeed proximity to power does turn one into a wallflower out of fear of ruffling feathers. A most interesting write my friend
Thank you, Soren. Sorry for the delayed reply...I'm in the middle of a move and have fallen behind on my comments. 😄 I had completely forgotten Jacob's head-on-a-rocks moment. That's a fascinating connection. I truly appreciate your thoughts on proximity and the way power can change people. Grateful you stopped by, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
Profunditates lucentes ...
Gratias, amice. Profunditas lucem quaerit, et lux profunditatem revelat. Sorry for the delayed reply...I'm in the midst of a move and playing catch-up. 😄 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
Powerful write Tristan. It is the weak, those that are in proximity to power and also need to belong. To be something bigger than themselves. Just my interpretation.
Thank you, Katie. Sorry for the delayed reply...I'm in the middle of a move and have fallen behind a bit. 😄 I appreciate your interpretation. There is certainly something powerful about the desire to belong and to be connected to something larger than ourselves. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
Oh no! The proximity - nearness - of a glug! We know who! lol.
Thank you, Orchi. Sorry for the delayed response...I'm in the midst of a move and playing catch-up. 😄 Alas, proximity to power is one thing. Proximity to a glug may be even more perilous. Before long the P (we knows him) and Qs appear, Scooby cries "Roh-roh! Raggy!" and suddenly everyone is swinging from a different light fixture. Grateful for the laugh, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
Thank you T. lol.
pedestal hijacking must be the oldest occupation in the world and so subtle too!
Thank you, Arqios. Sorry for the delayed reply...I'm in the middle of a move and have fallen behind on my comments. 😄 Haha! "Pedestal hijacking" is a wonderful phrase. The more I think about it, the more I suspect you're right. Grateful for the chuckle, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
Well written. Your poem examines the relationships between individuals who are near those in power, highlighting the superficial nature of their interactions. It questions the value of seeking approval from authority figures and emphasizes the importance of remaining true to oneself.
Thank you, Friendship. Sorry for the slow response...moving has consumed more of my attention than I expected. 😄 I especially appreciate your observation about approval and authority. It's amazing how easily those dynamics can shape our behavior without us even realizing it. Thank you for reading so closely, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
It calls out pull towards power, but also shows a quiet confidence in choosing your own path. Well written. Nice
Thank you, Vimal. Sorry for the delayed response...I'm in the middle of a move and have fallen behind a bit. 😄 I appreciate your read of this. The pull toward power is real, but so is the freedom that comes from stepping away from it and remaining true to yourself. Thank you for your kindness, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
For me this can be taken several ways.I see a troubled relationship where the female is willing to play teh power game. The author however is not so fake.It can be a metaphor for toxic Love.Enjoyed reading.Made me think
Thank you, David. Sorry for the delayed reply...I'm in the midst of a move and playing catch-up. 😄 I appreciate this. One thing I enjoy most is when readers find different paths into a poem, and you've certainly found one here. Grateful you spent time with it, my friend. 🕯️🎭🙏🖤
