कुत्ते वालों से
काश हम कुत्ते वाले होते,
हमारा भी स्टैंडर्ड होता।
मॉडर्न कहलाते,
सोसायटी में उठते‑बैठते।
हमने कोशिश की,
पर नहीं हो पाए—कुत्ते वाले।
सबने कोसा, धिक्कारा—
अरे! समाज में रहना है कि नहीं?
समाज में रहने के लिए
समाज के नियमों का पालन करना पड़ता है,
कुत्ता पालना पड़ता है।
मित्रों ने समझाया,
दो‑चार फायदे बताए—
इसी बहाने मॉर्निंग वॉक हो जाएगा,
बात करने को एक विषय मिल जाएगा,
सरकारी समय का थोड़ा सदुपयोग हो जाएगा।
पर हम नहीं हो पाए—
कुत्ते वाले।
हमने थोड़ा ऊपर ही सोचा,
क्यों न हम कुत्ते ही होते?
चूमे जाते, पुचकारे जाते।
अभी दो रुपल्ली में खाते हैं,
तब छत्तीस कम पड़ते।
अभी कपास का गद्दा है,
तब डनलप पर सोते।
पूँछ ही तो हिलानी पड़ती,
हिला देते—
सभी हिलाते हैं!
पर क्यों हम मान लें
कि कुत्ता मानव‑श्रेणी में आ गया है?
क्या इंसान इतना गिर गया है
या कुत्ता इतना उठ गया है?
ओह हाँ!
शायद—
वफादार होता है न!
पर क्या हम नहीं गिरे हैं?
गिरे हैं!!
आज मानव मानवता का लिबास छोड़ चुका है,
नंगा हो चुका है।
हम तो अब कुत्ते भी नहीं रहे।
बालक अनाथ है,
भूखा‑तरसता है—
उसको पालना क्या ज़रूरी है?
लोग क्या कहेंगे?
वो अनाथों को पालते हैं,
जाने किसका खून है,
जाने किसका पाप है?
लोग अनपढ़ हैं,
उनको पढ़ाना क्या ज़रूरी है?
बेरोजगार ही तो बनेंगे!
कुत्ता तो पढ़ रहा है,
नाम तो हो रहा है।
उनका कुत्ता “एजुकेटेड” है,
अंग्रेज़ी समझता है—
“टॉमी कम”,
“मोती शू”,
“सिट डाउन”।
अरे! ये कुत्ते वाले एजुकेटेड नहीं,
एजुकेटेड कुत्ते वाले हैं!
क्या काग़ज़ के फूलों में खुशबू आई है?
बनावट से सच्चाई छिप पाई है?
ये कुत्ते भी इंसान नहीं बन पाएँगे।
हाँ, कुछ असहाय इन कुत्तों की मौत मर जाएँगे।

It is not written against dogs, nor against those who love and care for them—because compassion, in any form, is beautiful.\\\\r\\\\nBut living in a country like India, where many still struggle for a single meal, where children sleep hungry and grow up without education or care, I cannot ignore the contrast I see around me. At times, it feels as though we, as a society, have slowly learned to extend more visible affection and attention to animals, while turning away from the silent suffering of fellow human beings.\\\\r\\\\nThis poem is not a judgment—it is a question. A question about priorities, about perception, and about what we choose to value and celebrate. If it feels uncomfortable, perhaps it was meant to be.

I love how you use discomfort to present a message and cause thought. I have been a dog owner and I love dogs but even there I have no room for all the stray dogs that live around. I love individuals (I can not say society) I can not take care of all the poor around me. Yet to say one loves but not demonstrate it is a hypocrisy. My wife gives to both people and dogs she is the true lover taking care of all living things around her.
