How did the cloth of hope
Love, peace, Safety
How did the cloths of laughter
Get stripped away from us?
Today I write of the tears,
Not the tears hidden beneath our pillows
Nor the ones we buried forcefully in our smiles
I write of the tears
That now walk in our cold street
The one transferred from one soul to another,
The tears even the dead are still shedding.
Our tears now walk openly
The tears of children who now sleep in cold forest,
The tears of father whose home has become pain,
Every corner searching for the trace of
his child,
who may long be one with soil.
I write of the tears of mothers
Who’s hope once measured with a cup of garri ,
Has been poured down on the soil.
While night has become a nightmare,
Waiting for her child’s lullaby.
I write of the youth,
Whose life has become a book
Where pages can be turned.
With no hope of what each page may brings.
I write of the green nation,
Of Nigeria
Whose soil has once been called "peace"
But now it is chaos.
Dear Heavens….
Did you take the clothes of peace from us?
Did you stripped the clothes of hope from us?
Did you now wear us the clothes of pain?
with no one to run to?
Markets are crowded
Yet, stomachs remain vacant
Farms are fertile
Yet hunger knocks loudly on countless doors.
The land you blessed
Still carries abundance in her womb
Yet her children clam for its fruit
How is it that a nation
Rich in oil cannot keep fuel within its reach!
A nation born with peace
Has been buried with pain?
How long shall you let the ones you blessed
Stay in pain?
Struggling like an infected snake.
Is this the test you talked about?
