I wanted to hold you tight
Keep you safe through every night
Wrap you close and guard your heart
Never let the world pull us apart
But somewhere in the soft moonlight
Somewhere between wrong and right
Your arms circled back around
A quiet pull
A gentle sound
I thought I was the one who stayed
The one who sheltered
The one who prayed
But then your warmth pressed into mine
And suddenly the lines aligned
Your hands found me like a vow
Steadying what I didn’t know how
To name
To tame
To keep in sight
You held me close
You held me tight
And in that moment
Love rewrote
The story I carried in my throat
I wasn’t saving you alone
Your heartbeat led me back to home
So now it’s both of us tonight
Your strength
My breath
Our shared light
I reached for you with all my might
And somehow I ended up
Being held tight
