Forever

Jeffery Lee Palmer

The love of my life holding me tightly

kissing my cheek ever so lightly

she whispered the words I dread to hear

I know you love me, but I am covered in fear

I have a million reasons to believe this is perfect

This level of commitment scares me to death

Please don't be sad. You are the one I will never forget.

In time, you will see this is not meant to be

Maybe I'm wrong, but I guess I'll see

If you need to go and find something better

I understand, I figured I wouldn't measure

up to the dreams your mind could conjure

Every kiss was a promise of forever

I hope you never settle for anything inferior

If you find you made a mistake

come back to me. I will save your place

I will never lock you out of my heart

I remember nights lit with candles
the path to the bedroom lined with petals
white roses stretched around your mirror
thinking out loud I am going to marry her
Ice melted off your bottle of wine
past this door there is no such thing as time
taking your hand spinning you in a circle
we fell on the bed talking and kissing
wishing life would always be like this

All these moments I cherish

If you need to go and find something better

I understand, I figured I wouldn't measure

up to the dreams your mind could conjure

Every kiss was a promise of forever

I hope you never settle for anything inferior

If you find you made a mistake

come back to me. I will save your place

I will never lock you out of my heart

A love promise and pledge with an acknowledgement that one may not be up to the other's standard of desire. Well done
