A shattered heart a soul defiled
Abused when no more than a child
An attitude most saw as wild
The world had done her wrong
She tried some drugs to help her through
And drank most of the local brew
Though deep inside she always knew
It couldn't last for long
She faced her demons one by one
Fought bravely til the war was won
Then turned her face toward the sun
And sung her favourite song
Her head slowed down her feet were cleared
The kid they all thought strange and weird
Confidence lost now reappeared
To show her she was strong
She now helps people seen as prey
With secrets they have locked away
The strength she found that fateful day
Had been there all along

Love your rhyme scheme that fits this poem so well and that you have crafted perfectly with your meter. Very nicely done a fave
Many thanks soren
Not written in a while so it means a lot
Glad to see you back you are most welcome
Addiction, demons and recovery are some of my favourite topics as I can relate to them, going back a few years ago anyway. Nothing too serious, alcohol mainly. Glad all that's behind me now.
Great, well written poem Peto. I'm also a sucker for a well rhyming piece.
