Living in the light

Spencer Wilhelm

And then it stops.

The cascading cacophony inside

Stirred up

Caused by such creativity of mind

Ceased stillness

When everything was dry

And with eyes sagged by dreary days

Defeated

I dragged my body to bed

BANG!

The room illumines with light!

The rain pattering, rhythmically, listlessly

Following the whims of the wind.

LIFE!

Dragging long hours of night

Into frenzied, flaming, fights

Between the heart and the mind.

When the heaven's illumed by such sporadic light,

Or my room by candle's flickering might

The songs which need to be sung

Ache forth like bells long wrung

Announcing, droning, living

The long placed loves of one

Who after waiting, feels finally found.

Oh what mysticism,

What union

Between the great darkness

And the revelations of the heart!

What gift is given to him

To actually use what came from heaven

Though instances short lived in

Appear in circumstances forsaken.

For who approves of dreamlessness?

Of denying the subconscious

The chance to lay its case

Before not-mighty conscience?

Who would choose such sleepless ecstasy?

Held in such motion of mind

which claims all faculty

to settle down inside?

Would you choose such Purgatory?

But if when stirred by Beauty

By Him who's mighty fastness

Whose world in all its fullness

Claims all imagination,

You let yourself be slaughtered

To all ideas of future

Forget such consolations

And let yourself be nurtured

And sing uot to your father

Who in his loving kindness

Bestowed on you creation

To steward and enliven.

Oh in such flaming passion

With pen and paper union

May my heart be stilled

But only if you will it.

For every gift is given

Always for a reason

So in these frantic scribbles

Lord, help me keep your vigil.

To never disappoint You...

Oh dear Lord I love You,

I hope this treatise serves You

Forever to adore You. Amen.
