The Love I Have For You

Anthony Hanible

The love

I have for you

Is carved in bone

A vow I never spoke

But somehow

You’ve always known

It rises

Like a tide

I cannot slow

A pull inside my chest

That drags me

Where you go

The love

I have for you

Is fierce and true

A quiet storm

That breaks me open

Just to build me

New

It’s the ache

Behind my breathing

The truth

I keep repeating

The reason

Every wound I carry

Still believes

In healing

The love

I have for you

Is fire bright

A lantern

In my darkest hours

A promise

That the night

Won’t swallow me

Despite

How long I’ve lived

Without the light

The love

I have for you

Is not a fragile thing

It’s iron

It’s a kingdom

It’s a crown

I didn’t ask for

But I wear it

Like a king

It’s the reason

I stay standing

The force

That keeps demanding

I rise again

No matter

How hard

The fall

The love

I have for you

Is everything

And more

A truth

I’d bleed to guard

A door

I’d never close

A faith

I never had

Until your name

Became the one thing

I chose

A declaration of love in this poem that echoes line to line. Nicely written Anthony

This is beautiful, I wish more people could stand up proudly for love.
