Living with Depression

Chuck Peterson

My Reality

reality, now
world is muffled, silent
voices grow distant

reality now
In my mind, chaos rules
a moment of peace

reality now
noise and ceaseless clatter
yearning for silence

Whispers

eyes clouded
fading whispers in the dark,
lost in a lonely night.

creeping quietly
a whisper in the mind
unseen

moments of joy
a silent thief takes it all
keeper of our tears

The Sea

calm seas, serene, bright
reflect a hopeful light
clouds gather, darkness falls

without warning
a sudden plunge, a bottomless abyss
endless waves

a treacherous sea
mind adrift, clear then obscured
gasping for air

unpredictable
a silent storm, a hidden war
depressions grip, forevermore

Healing Begins

hidden dreams are found
the pause that gives us life
pondering what might have been

in depression’s grip
we find the hidden truths
wisdom, healing begins

curious eyes seek
whispers of a hidden world
courage to rewrite
