No Bother, Sweet the body

mohammad ali

O' bother not an ant who's carrying seed!
A soul and body sweet he hath indeed.

Thank you, dear Soren! This was a poem from Sa'di Shirazi, who lived during the 13th century, with his life generally dated from around 1210 to 1291 or 1292. He's been master of two genres: He’s equally famous for his lyrical love poetry (ghazals) and his wise, moralistic verse—especially in his two masterpieces:
      · Bustan (The Orchard) – entirely in verse, full of ethical tales.
      · Gulistan (The Rose Garden) – a mix of prose and poetry, packed with witty anecdotes and practical wisdom.
      · Global influence: His works were used as textbooks in Persian schools for centuries. Even Goethe and Emerson were deeply inspired by him.
      · Everyday sayings: Many proverbs in Persian culture come from Sa'di—like his famous line:
"Human beings are members of a whole, in creation of one essence and soul."
(which is now on the entrance of the UN Hall of Nations!)
      · Traveler and survivor: He traveled widely across the Middle East, endured the Mongol invasions, and was even taken captive by Crusaders—experiences that deeply shaped his humanist outlook.
