Will You?

Michael A. McGuire

If I open up my heart to you, will
you embrace my love with sterile and
tender hands?

Will you promise to never leave me
and cause me more pain? Will you reject
and laugh at my attempt for true
love, leaving me to die, sick and lame?

Will you love me for who I am; not
try to change my heart and mind?

Will you be there when I need you most,
and comfort me when Life's not being kind?

When the whole World is against me,
will you be there to stand by my side?

Will you love me forever, until Death,
and once again our souls collide?

Will you?

A poetic question asked before commitment can be made. Nicely written.

Questions worth an answer. Yes. 🌹 A most lovely romantic write.

Beautiful. I love that yours has more of a love sense; I feel like I get more love from yours. A great write!
And yes, they are similar. I didn't even know about this poem of yours. Thank you for letting me know about it. I will definitely be revisiting it.

Appreciate it. I always tried to write in timeless universal themes that could be read 100 years ago or in the future and still have same impact.
All my poetry was written over 35-40 years ago and just now getting them online. I have some long 15-30 page poems that are pretty epic. Most consider them dark but they are real and are meant as a warning to myself or whomever to do better in Life. "When Reality Becomes the Dream" and "Schizophrenic Scribblings..."

Look forward to reading more of your writing as well.

Yes! I get that timeless feeling when I read your poems, and I definitely think they'll continue to have an impact on whoever reads them, even years from now.

I think it's amazing that you're finally posting them. I've genuinely enjoyed reading your work so far. It's also impressive that you can carry those emotions through such long pieces—that's a real gift.

Reality can feel dark to some people and ordinary to others, but I think honest poetry connects with people on a much deeper emotional level. When I say that, I don't mean every poem has to come from personal experience, but there's something different about writing that comes from a place of real emotion. Readers can often feel that authenticity.

I also think poetry can serve as a warning to others who may be feeling or thinking the same way, while also becoming a snapshot of who we were when we wrote it. Five years from now, we might read one of our own poems again and find that it speaks to an entirely different season of our lives. I love that about poetry.

And I definitely feel that way about your poems. I think years from now I'll come back and read them again, and they'll make me feel something different depending on where I am in life. That's what makes timeless poetry so special.

I'll definitely be looking forward to reading more of your work as well!

Sorry, long answer; I got carried away😅

No - that was great and I’m so glad my words move you as intended. When I look for great writing, it’s not using large words meant to perplex the reader, it’s the emotional connection so they feel what you felt when writing it. I want their heart aching, not their brain. Lol. Got me going now.

              Lol.
I love poetry, both old and new, but there's something special about simple poetry that's written to be felt rather than admired. You can sense that intention from the very beginning, and I truly see it in your writing.

I completely agree. I'm not trying to leave a mark so much as leave a feeling—something that lingers long after the poem is finished. I hope that whenever that feeling returns, the words return with it too.
