Spitting flames, mighty tongues,
hear their warry, bright love songs,
where egos blare, on every street,
what is win, and what’s defeat?
Sad green Earth, does suffocate,
under flags, that congregate,
thus, respect is redefined,
a mangled word, that’s underlined –
on every platform, subscribe now!
Reddit, is now holier than thou,
Queens are slaying, kings are chained,
because of history, that is blamed.
To love a human, I try to do,
but with all these names, I don’t know who
hence; such a pride, is injured; fault,
as “proud as punch” is assault!
Postscript –
Just like religion, don’t force feed,
I know where I stand,
betwixt the well and broken seed,
for I am, what I am!

- Comment from author about the poem: Amongst many sporting events happening in this month, (including a quaint little football tournament happening in the USA), it is also “Pride Month”. However with garish “marches” and “parades”; words that are associated with conflict, and a cartoonish sense of ceremony, I have to ask this question: has a wholesome capacity of pride, turned into a war-like arrogance, that fuels too much division; that leads to too much fighting? In the UK we have an old saying: “proud as punch”, meaning: to be incontinently happy with one’s own; or loved one’s achievements, welcomed good luck or the simple receiving of a gift. Yet, the more I think about the current divisiveness of the world, and these “marches” and “parades”, the more I think that to be “proud as punch” has now become a threat. A barrier. A continuous excuse to go to war. When I say this, and when I was writing this poem, I was not and am not exclusively talking about the LGBTQ+ community, I am talking about all of us, as to be human, is to seemingly misuse pride, to prolong the same bad decisions generation to generation, to sustain a sub-par design for life. I suppose what I am trying to say, is that, the real reason for humanity to be “proud” has not happened yet, but I hope it does, and soon! The banner picture of the different coloured leaves, to me, celebrates the variety of life, a happy family of people with different strengths, that they bring to the table. However, sadly, it also represents the continuous brash singular self-importances, that feeds humanity’s ego every single day! I hope that you enjoy and take something from this poem, I hope that whatever you do in order to make yourself proud, is for the right reason, and as always, please do stay safe in the madness everyone!
