Vows

Samuel Potsane

My dear,

author of my heart,

As above, so below—

you are my essence.

With this ring,

I mark you with my love when I must leave.

I mark you with my presence

when loneliness sits beside you.

Take this ring,

so my soul may circle your finger

and find its way back to you.

Words, money, emotions, health—

they mean little to me

if I must live alone.

So save me,

that I may save myself.

I love you now,

I will love you tomorrow,

I will love you after the hate,

and I will wait for you

even after our bodies have left this world.

For love is a world of its own,

and if I could spend my last days

looking into your eyes,

I would call that eternity.
