If I Could

Aashi M.

If I could see in

the eyes of my mother

and her tinted,

cracked glasses

If I could see in

the eyes of my mother

and her love

for my nose

If I could walk in

the mind of my mother

and her withered,

white roses

If I could walk in

the mind of my mother

and nurture

her garden

If I could swim in

the sweat of my mother

and taste what

she worked for

If I could swim in

the tears of my mother

and see my

own shoulder

When I could walk in

the mind of my mother

I saw her

fenced meadow

When I could swim in

the tears of my mother

I could see

my own eyes

When I could see in

the eyes of my mother

she was as

young as me

Love and empathy fill this poem nicely composed with compassion that reverts to seeing oneself in the same mirror. Well written

  • Friendship
