Tribulations

Fränz Müller

The call of the flesh

drowns out the siren song

of the rational mind;

skin yearns for skin

while one’s higher consciousness

shrieks in abject horror.

The fires of lust

can burn one’s life to ash;

Scattered on cool water

those embers defiantly steam and hiss

and simply refuse to die.

What can you dare to do?

Such is the life we struggle to live.
