Prison Is Not For Me

Anthony Hanible

I’m carved from lightning

Wired for flight

Not built for cages

Not made for night

I rise like storms

That refuse to sleep

I climb through shadows

The walls can’t keep

I’m not a number

Not steel’s decree

I’m every lock

That lost its key

I’m every sunrise

Breaking through

Every truth

The darkness knew

Prison is not for me

I’m too alive

Too wild

Too free

I bend the bars

With breath and will

I turn the silence

Sharp and still

I walk where echoes

Learn to roar

Where broken doors

Become a door

I’m built of thunder

Born to be

The one no cell

Can ever see

Prison is not for me

I’m the spark

That snaps the chain

The voice that rises

Through the pain

The road that runs

Beyond the gate

The fate that never

Fears its fate

Prison is not for me

I’m freedom’s pulse

I’m destiny
