Feel Free

A.N.

Wind blowing, air hot,
Summer adventures and whatnot.
Just to breathe and understand
How something can change and begin.

I feel the pressure of my education,
But the kid in me aches to come out—
The kid in fifth grade
Who would do anything but sit in class.

And why is it so hard to choose now?
Why is it so hard to pick me?

Maybe I've been too mature for too long,
For a life that is passing too fast
To be so worried.

I wish I could play without a care,
And feel confident in my hair.
To feel free, and swing, and run,
To swim all day just for fun.

I'm so scared for my education, though.
Maybe I just don't want to be put back,
Left behind.

And if I was...
Maybe that's not so bad,
But a piece that looks back
And says,
"I enjoyed the past."
