The Press
should serve
the governed
not the governors
A voice
of truth
untethered
running free
A Journalist
the highest
calling
with words intrepid
To save
the struggling nation
child
— and thee

A true statement that should be true but unfortunately the present state of affairs guarantees ownership of the news by the well offs with a common interest. Well done Kurt
... and as bad as it often seems, we're still so much better off than the dozens of countries that have no free Press.
The idea of a free press is a good one but it would require independently owned services that take different sides of a story.
I wrote a book years ago where an ex-Navy Seal ran for Congress in Annapolis Maryland. His platform had 3 components ...
1: TERM LIMITS- One term in office. No exceptions.
2: ALL SPECIAL INTEREST POLITICAL LOBBYISTS- Are outlawed
3: A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO A RIGHT TO PRIVACY- If your name or reputation gets decimated in the National Enquirer or People Magazine erroneously for gratuitous headlines, that publication is shut down, the ownership sued, and jail time for those convicted.
With Term Limits, we\'d have a different type of person holding political office. Without the special interest lobbyists, the politicians wouldn't be bought and paid for and the Press would be held to a higher standard. With guaranteed privacy, a higher quality individual would run for office. Many stay away because of what the vetting process, often misguided, does to their families and reputation.
Those 3 things, if implemented, would fix 90% of what we\'re dealing with today ...
The book was titled: THE FALL CITY MANDATE. It\'s still available online and in select bookstores.
Good ideas but special interests would never allow it
Under my scenario ... Special Interests would be gone.
good write with a truth and message regards the press
Thanks Norman.
most welcome

A powerful poem. Your poem "The Press" revolves around the role of journalism in a democratic society. You emphasize that the press should act as a voice for the governed (the general public) rather than serving the interests of those in power (the governors). The poem highlights the importance of truth, freedom, and the responsibility of journalists in advocating for the well-being of the nation and its citizens, particularly those who are struggling.
Thanks so much. Although the Press is at a low point in its genesis. It's still much better
than societies that have no free Press or freedom of expression at all.
I appreciate your cogent words.
Kurt, this really resonates with me. A free press is not the servant of power, but one of the strongest protections people have against its abuse. Powerful write, my friend! πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬
Your words cut sharp. Thanks again.
