How Can You Help Me Pt. 6 Psychology 601: The Roots That Made Me

Anthony Hanible

I fall again

Into the roots

That made me

I drop through blood

I drop through years

I drop through

Old inherited fears

I feel the illness

Half storm

Half seed

A twin born force

I didn’t choose

But still must read

Nature

Hard

Ancient

Deep

It carved its mark

Before I could speak

A coded whisper

Inside my bones

A myth that moves

When I’m alone

Nurture

Soft

Shaping

Slow

It built the rooms

I learned to know

The voices

The lessons

The quiet pain

The childhood storms

That left their stain

My illness rises

From both these streams

From nature’s pulse

From nurture’s dreams

Psych 601

Meets me

In the tangled roots

Beneath my care

You show the blend

The braided thread

The way two forces

Shape my head

You teach the science

You teach the lore

You teach the war

Inside my core

You help me see

What forged my fire

What fed my fear

What shaped desire

You help me rise

Slow

But true

From everything

I once lived through

You help me claim

What’s mine to be

The roots

The truth

The whole of me
