We both know how this goes—
the conversation never ending,
questions about things that could go on forever,
funny remarks, weird comebacks,
stupid eye contact.
We both know how this goes,
how it starts so simple.
And nothing will go right after that
if we change the title.
There's no coming back.
Maybe we should stay as strangers,
or friends,
before one of us trips,
and we both fall downhill,
and the title changes.

- Comment from author about the poem: Just a little write. I've mostly been going back and rewriting my poems instead of writing new ones lately, so hopefully this one isn't too shabby.

This could well apply to several types of relationships. It seems most applicable to marriage where a woman traditionally changes her name and power dynamics are turned on their head. It could well be a work relationship for a friend as well. Nicely done
Thank you! I'm glad you could find different meanings in it.
