Memories

sorenbarrett

Shadow of a smile, whisper of a touch, undulation beneath a stretched belly skin
Birth in movement, a tiny finger clutch, the color of love erase all that's been
Memory's rainbows fade washed in rains of time
Cutting teeth bite a nursing breast sublime

Maternal blood drawn from a fountain of milk offered
Small fists of rage demand what is not proffered
Parental shells discarded as unwanted trash
Reeducated minds now only call for cash

A celebration of motherhood while reflecting on the sacrifices of parenthood and the pain of love that may end in distance or rejection.

      • sorenbarrett

Thank you Soheil you have captured it well nature has her ways of creating and then severing bonds so as to leave an opening for the cycle to create anew. I deeply appreciate your reads and interpretations my friend

What a devastating poem, Soren. That sharp reversal from complete devotion to cold entitlement hits terribly hard...especially because I have seen families arrive at precisely this kind of estrangement. Brilliantly constructed, my friend! πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

Thank you so much for the review Tristan I always look forward to your comments in that they are well thought out and offer not only insight into the meaning of the poem itself but often other perspectives as well. Thanks so much my friend

This poem feels raw and unflinching, tracing the arc from tenderness and creation into something more strained and disillusioned. The contrast between nurturing imagery and the harder emotional turn at the end gives it a powerful, almost unsettling resonance.

            • sorenbarrett

Thanks Thomas your poetic insight is most appreciated and highly anticipated. You are most appreciated my friend

Bloody children, it's like they're born on the Monday and by Friday they want the car keys, car, money, and don't wait up for me I'll not be back tonight.
Okay, just realised that was me.

              • sorenbarrett

Thanks Paul you realized what I did that I was speaking of myself as well and the cycle goes on. Your words are appreciated

Which reminds us of the age old Question: Are we Born Evil, Or become Evil?
