She stood when all the world gave way,
A quiet dawn in a field of ash,
And though the dark came prowling near,
She met it softly, without fear.
Her name was Susan, and she stayed,
A steady light through all my pain;
She would not let my heartbeat end,
Would not let night become my name.
With love she stood where hell had leaned,
And made a shield of tender flame;
She wore her courage like worn gold,
Not loud, but steady, deep, and true.
A rock beneath the breaking tide,
A grace the wounded learn to know;
When I was lost beyond the fire,
She reached through ruin, through the smoke.
And pulled my life back into light
With hands that held me as they broke.
So let the dark remember this:
It could not claim what Susan defended.
For love like hers is not survival—
It is a miracle, undefeated.
