The Night

Shahla Latifi

Does the night,
this cover of dark veil on the skin of every man and every woman,
can desire the warm touch of shining stars above?

At night,
when the day has fallen apart beneath the shadow of night,
why do I moan quietly for a mellow smell of love, by my side?

At night, things can change: the dark fear of the day-unwanted, alone- can change into dreams filled with love.

With a romance novel, lying on the bed at night, the blossoms of spring, the colourful leaves of autumn, and the cold, snowy days behind the clear mirror of night can embrace a lonely soul.

A most romantic poem that divides the day from the night. Well written

I really enjoyed this poem because it presents the night as a space where loneliness, desire, and hope meet. I particularly liked the use of personification, symbolism, and rhetorical questions, which make the night feel alive and comforting. The imagery and contrast between darkness and light beautifully express the movement from loneliness toward hope and love.
