Can you even dare to beat this disease?
Can you find yourself whole
Find yourself complete and free?
Can these wounds heal within we?
Can you find serenity
In this endless, cold sea?
And though you've tried
You've tried to find a light
And you've tried
To break from the clutches of
And though you've tried
You've tried to fight
And you've tried
To rid of this decay of the
Growing rot
The fears you've fought
The wish to become anew
The trials and pain
The mental strain
A desire to return to
What you were
Before you fell
Down into this
Spiral
Does depression truly take what was lost?
Can we never go back to
A time when we had it all?
And even if we do recover
Are we forever changed by
Our broken, worn out minds?
Do we try to beat our disease?
Or do we just want to be
What we once were again?

- Comment from author about the poem: I dont believe I have made my depression private on my profile. My poems deal heavily in explaining my constant, growing struggles, and the thoughts and emotions that are ever-present in my head. Indeed, I have a strong case of MDD, and yet I continue to fight it, though admittedly my strength against it has wavered over the years. I have sought medical help, and while this SNRI I am taking has helped, I still fight my depression. I know this is likely a life-long battle. Clinical depression often is. And yet, a slimmer of hope remains that, one day, I can find some semblance of light in my often gloomy, dark world. But when I think of that possibility, a question emerges; what happens if I truly do manage my depression? Am I changed permanently mentally from these issues, or who I was before my issues truly spiraled into the murky abyss will emerge from its depths? Will I ever feel like \\\"me\\\" again, or is this my new norm? How much of myself have I lost forever? Questions ponder in my head as I stare at my bedroom wall.
