Honeymoon

Sunita

I didn't believe in the honeymoon phase
like c'mon it's stupid
who would love someone for months
then call it quits?
Then I met you
A hand so gentle
a touch so pure
eyes of an angle
soul of the good
every hug was a promise
and every kiss our little bliss
Every text my favorite alarm
and every good night my favorite rhythm
But today, today you left
Taking my heart
and all I am
all I could give
out the door with yourself.
Our world cracked open
honeymoon phase over
6 whole months gone like nothing
Honeymoon. Phase. Over.

You managed to somehow break my heart and keep the pieces to yourself
locked away in a safe.
I still check for messages,
yes, those I know will not come
I couldn't delete the pictures of us,
as though memories would bind my shattered heart
I kept every diary entry
and every poem I ever wrote/'letting my ink keep us alive,
in every lifetime and every home.

Home.
where i imagined our hearts aligning,
our souls everlasting
our love ... everlasting
Until you left me in a burning house,
and let them be what they always were
Imaginations looping in my head
looping like a broken record

Sad when passion turns to dust and love never ignites. Well written

Heartbreak heals with time but never fully goes away, IMHO. Wonderfully written.
