You used to say "I love you"
While asleep in bed
I'd reply I did too
But it was only a dream in your head
You'd mumble sweet words
Underneath your snores
Little peeps like baby birds
Right outside our doors
I'd hold you tight just for a while
Hum and softly comb your hair
And you'd give a tiny smile
One we'd often share

I think the ending is perfect as it is. A very sweet poem.

Tender and sweet and whether a lover or a small child it is all the same. Lovely
I appreciate your read and comment Soren, thank you!
You are most welcome
Wow, Allie…this is so gentle and intimate. There’s something deeply touching about affection showing itself when someone isn’t even fully awake…unguarded, instinctive, and completely human. Beautifully done, my friend. I agree with Fränz on this. The ending is perfect as is.🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
That means a lot Tristan! Thank you for reading and commenting as always
