Rhymes of Mifestofel (Jules Barbier)

Ksey_Gan

The Gold Calf still stands above all

They offer incense

To its power fence.

From one end of the world to the other!

To honor the vile idol,

Kings and commoners alike then

To the grim clinking of gold,

Dance a frenzied round every stance

Around its pedestal all.

And Satan leads the flame dance!
And Satan leads the flame dance!

The Golden Calf triumphs over the other  Gods

In its unthinkable glory—

A bumptious mockery—

The abject monster insults the holy heavens!

It gazes—oh, strange race!—

At the human race at its feet,

Rushing, sword in hand  highly

Into the blood and the mire bins

Where the burning metal gleams!...

And Satan leads the flame dance!

And Satan leads the flame dance!
