The Cost of Light

Ria_1005

Does the candle realize

The thread it holds within its heart

Will lead to its ruin?

The unassuming wick is

The light of its life but also

The cause of its demise.

If the candle does know,

Why does it let itself be consumed?

Is love always such a sacrifice?

Perhaps the candle is truly unaware.

And what a tragedy it is —

To stand oblivious to the traitor in your heart.

Hi Ria, I love this! Such a clever write. The candle sure is a victim of its own design.

What a lovely metaphor so well expressed in this poem. It struck me particularly hard with the second added metaphor to it. It is rare that a metaphor can be extended so well as this and so nicely done a fave
