Tinderbox

Syd

Parched sticks and twigs
Crack and crunch underfoot
We're willing the powder keg to dampen
Without any luck

Dark brown is the foliage
The grass and the trees
If only rain would come
From clouds supposedly seeded

This country's a tinderbox
In many more ways than one
Polar extremes of political views
Scorch the ground like searing sun

Britain's youngest professor
Tragically takes his own life
In the wake of unfounded claims
Of plagiarism that were brought to light

Clutching desperately at straws
Can this extreme climate ever be fixed?
"But...but this is just natural" and
"What about the long hot summer of 1976?"

Extremes of opinion beat down
Like the nuclear ball in the sky
Amplified by social media...

The sadistic kid with the magnifying glass held high

The magnifying glass is worth ten years now, maybe two with good behavior, overcrowding etc.
Felt sorry for the Prof, they hounded the guy. I mean, who doesn't plager.
    Snowing in London, that's extreme.

      Hi Paul,

Yes, these are strange times we live in. I can't see things getting any better either, they'll probably go more the other way if I'm honest.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you're keeping well.

A sociopolitical commentary tied to climate and disaster nicely woven together this piece set in good rhyme is well worked.

        Thank you so much Sorenbarret.

Much appreciated are your kind words.

Syd, this is powerful and unsettling. The environmental heat and the social heat keep feeding each other until the whole country feels ready to ignite. Strong piece, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Yes, indeed. They can feed off each other and create a perfect storm.

            Thanks for stopping by Tristan.

            Much appreciated - Syd 🍄
