Ransom What Does It Cost To Get My Heart Back

Anthony Hanible

Night loosens

Its velvet jaw

Drops my pulse

Like a stolen law

A feather note

Drifts through bone

Signed only

By a name

I no longer own

It says the price

Is not in pain

But in the orchard

Where old dreams

Still rain

Fruit made of echoes

Roots made of stain

What does it cost

A lantern of breath

The mask I wore

To bargain with death

The quiet feather

I lost in your step

The moon wants

My unlit skin

The one I shed

To let you in

The stars demand

My hidden ache

The vow I broke

For my own sake

The wind asks

For my final spark

The part of me

That kneels to dark

So I lay down

My mirrored chest

Offer the map

Of every unrest

The symbols carved

Where longing pressed

And still the night

Won’t answer back

Won’t name the cost

To get

My heart

Back
